VIF@TANUVAS was established as a “not for profit” section 8 company by Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Chennai on 6th March, 2019. This symbolically embarked TANUVAS had opened its doors for startups to explore the vast knowledge base created in the last few decades. The lab facility, farm facility, clinical facility and other resources were made available for the start-ups. Our focus is to fully reap the benefits out of the Government thrusts on start-up promotions especially in the veterinary sector

VIF@TANUVAS presently supports Twenty-Two start-ups working on application of cross-cutting technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics, 3D printing, Artificial Intelligence etc. in the veterinary sciences domain. Some of the products developed / being developed by the incubatee start-ups at VIF@TANUVAS include mass vaccine delivery systems, identifying animals through artificial intelligence, app development for estimating the production capacity of cows, pregnancy independent lactation, biodegradable progesterone implants, 3D scaffolds, etc.

VIF@TANUVAS is being financially supported by The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Govt. of Tamil Nadu and BioNEST, Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), Govt. of India. VIF@TANUVAS has also Branch offices at three of our constituent colleges; VCRI, Namakkal, CFDT, Koduvalli and CPPM, Hosur.

VIF@TANUVAS also implements novel business models in veterinary sector. A door-step diagnostic service for detection of haemoprotozoan parasites in canines is being implemented in association with TRPVB and M/s. Illume Gene India LLP, Bengaluru to expand the reach of veterinary diagnostic services to practicing veterinarians. In addition, to promote entrepreneurship, VIF@TANUVAS organizes lecture series, awareness programs, workshops, webinars, Vetpreneurship Grant Opportunity (WeGrow), Student – Incubatee Linkage (SIL) programmes and Pre-Incubation Support to Promote Entrepreneurship (PISPE) for prototype development.

 

During the pandemic COVID-19, our Incubatees at VIF@TANUVAS has played pivotal role to combat COVID-19. TranScience Innovative Technologies developed RT-PCR kit for diagnosis COVID-19 and Viral Transport Media (VTM) which are approved by ICMR and CDSCO. Some other products 3D printed Automatic sanitizer dispenser, MedShield, Hands-free sanitizer dispenser were also developed and supplied.

VIF@TANUVAS in collaboration with the Directorate of Extension Education (DEE), TANUVAS has taken a new initiative to identify and enrol around 100 progressive farmers as members of the Progressive Livestock Farmers Network (PLFN) who will help validating new products, technology acceptance studies, field-based performance of products, refining of technologies, etc., developed at VIF@TANUVAS.

With respect to seed fund support, four of our incubatees have received the Voucher A funding support of Innovation Voucher Program (IVP) of the Government of Tamil Nadu seed funding support for developing the innovative products one incubatee has received Biotechnology Initiation Grant from the BIRAC, New Delhi. M/s. Chimertech Innovations LLP, an incubatee of VIF@TANUVAS was awarded a cash prize of Rs.5.00 lakhs at National Bio-Entrepreneurship Competition – 2019 with an investment opportunity of 1.00 lakh USD from Capital Pte. Ltd., Singapore.

About the Host Institution

Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) is the first veterinary university in India founded in 1989 with headquarters at Madhavaram Milk Colony, Chennai. TANUVAS has six constituent Colleges spread across Tamil Nadu. 1.Madras Veterinary College, Chennai 2.Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal 3.Veterinary College and Research Institute, Tirunelveli 4.Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu 5.College of Food and Dairy Technology, Koduvalli 6. College of Poultry Production and Management, Hosur Vision To foster ‘Vetpreneurship’ to facilitate translation of research outcomes to the benefit of stake holders with or without industry support. Mission To ensure that research outcomes of technology and services are made available either to the market or directly to stake holders and also to drive the research in institutions in areas of market-need. Objectives Creation of start-ups for innovative veterinary products including diagnostics, biologicals, farm Equipments etc developed by TANUVAS or independently by the incubatee. Diagnostic & Clinical services established by TANUVAS to be outsourced for potential incubatees for scaling-up the activity as an agreeable royalty basis (through vendor reach out). Few of these could be A1/A2 testing, IBR testing, IMHA testing in canines, canine parentage, etc

Clinical Facility

The facilities in small animal services include specialty in Cardiology, Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic surgery, Immunization, Dentistry, Theriogenology and General Surgery and in Large Animal – Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology and Obstetrics. The specialty services for both large and small animals includes Radiology, Arthroscope, C-arm, Ultrasonography, Doppler, Gastrofibroscope, Bronchofibroscope, Rhinoscope, Colonoscope, Otoscope with Endoscopic image documenting system, Slit lamp Bio-microscope, Laparoscope and Vaginoscope.
